Global Climate Change…Yup, I’m there
Today, after almost two full days in the dark as a result of the remanants of Hurrican Ike hitting middle America, I’m headed out to a conference on global climate change.
To be honest, I question some of the science of “An Inconvenient Truth” and the whole global warming debacle. Want my evidence? Last year, in August, it was on average 8 degrees hotter than it was this year. Evidence? Well, not really, it’s flimsy at best, but so is a lot of what I’ve read about global warming.
On the other hand, I absolutely support the need to move away from fossil fuels and see alternate energy sources. I support environmentalism when it isn’t extreme. Tonight’s conference, I am torn about.
The conference is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters a notoriously left-wing organization. Even as a moderate liberal, I sometimes find their positions too extreme. But I do support their basic reasons for existence and I want to know what else I can reasonably do to improve environmental conditions in the world around me.
So, I’m going and the irony of such a meeting as we continue to clean up from a tropical storm is not lost on me. I just hope it isn’t lost on the organizers, either.
