I write for a living. I am a reporter, blogger, researcher and a fiction writer. Unfortuantely, until the  last year or so, most of the fiction was completely in my own mind.

I had ever writer’s delusions of grandeur, the great American novel that was going to add me to the ranks of Hemingway and Faulkner and Poe. Of course, the problem is that with the novel existing only in my mind, there wasn’t any chance of the dreams actually coming true.

Then, through Associated Content I found my way to Accentuate Writer’s Forum and through Accentuate I found today.com and a few other places to write for, but more importantly, I found the freedom to actually write the fiction that was bouncing around in my brain.  The lovely editor and writer who runs the place, Michelle L. Devon will give anyone helpful hints about breaking into the publishing business, writing for a living, or anything else that she knows a little about. More importantly though, the forum itself is full of other writers trying to make a go off writing as a career.

Now, that sounds like competition, but what it is is absolutely amazing. This is the friendliest, most supportive group of people I have ahd the priviledge to meet on line or elsewhere. These people actually want one another to succeed.

Sure, there is a friendly competition between us, especially in the regularly-scheduling writing contests, but even that is mostly full of good-natured ribbing. After two contests, I can happily say that I made semi-finalist in both. But more importantly, because of the atmosphee of the Accentuate forum and the encouragement I am receiving there, I am writing fiction. No longer is this just an idea for a some day novel. Now, it is happening.

I still have to balance the writing I do for pleasure with the writing I do to pay the bills, but for the first time in eyars, i am doing both….and loving every minute of it.
